Mute Video
Strip the audio track and keep the picture exactly as it was. Runs entirely in your browser.
Copying, not re-encoding
A video file is a container holding separate streams: one for picture, one or more for sound, sometimes subtitles. Removing the sound means writing out a new container with the video stream copied across unchanged and the audio simply left behind. Nothing is decoded, nothing is compressed again, and no pixel changes.
That is why this finishes in seconds on a file that would take minutes to convert. It is also why the result is not merely “visually identical” but actually identical — the same encoded frames, in a new wrapper.
The reason this belongs on your own machine
Most conversion tools are about convenience. This one is usually about the opposite: people mute a clip because the audio contains something that should not travel with it. A colleague talking in the background of a screen recording. A child’s name. Music that would get the upload taken down.
Uploading that file to a web service to have the audio removed hands over the exact thing you were trying not to share, and trusts a policy page that it will be deleted afterwards. Here the file is opened, rewritten and handed back without leaving the tab, so there is no policy to trust.
Muting is not redaction of the picture
Worth being precise: this removes sound and nothing else. Anything visible in the frames — a name on screen, a reflection, a notification banner — is still there afterwards, because the video stream is untouched. If the thing to remove is in the picture, this is not the tool.
