Extracting and splitting are different jobs

They get talked about interchangeably and produce entirely different things. Splitting is a burst: every page becomes its own file and you get a ZIP. That is what you want when a scanner produced one long file out of twenty separate documents.

Extracting is a selection: you get one PDF containing the pages you chose. That is what you want when a forty-page report has a six-page appendix somebody needs and the other thirty-four pages are not theirs to read. Both tools exist here, and this is the second one.

Why document order, always

The pages come out in the order they appear in the source, not the order you clicked them. Clicking order is almost never meaningful — it records the sequence in which you noticed pages, which is not a property of the document — and a tool that quietly used it would produce a shuffled appendix whenever you spotted page nine before page seven. Reordering is a deliberate act with its own tool.

Nothing is re-rendered

The chosen pages are copied into a new document in a single pass that shares one object map, so fonts and images used by several of them are embedded once. The pages themselves are carried over intact: selectable text stays selectable, vectors stay sharp at any zoom, and photographs keep the exact bytes they had. An extracted page is the same page, not a picture of it.

How is this different from splitting a PDF?

Splitting bursts a document into one file per page and hands you a ZIP of all of them. Extracting takes the pages you choose and gives you a single PDF containing exactly those, in document order. If you want pages 4 to 9 as one document, this is the tool; if you want every page as its own file, use Split PDF.

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. The pages are rendered as thumbnails and the new document is assembled by code running on your own device. Extracting a few pages usually means separating what someone else should see from what they should not, so the whole document never leaving your machine is the point rather than a bonus.

Do the extracted pages keep their quality?

Completely. The pages are copied whole into a new document rather than re-rendered: text stays selectable and searchable, vector artwork stays vector, and images keep their original bytes. Nothing is recompressed, so an extracted page is indistinguishable from the page it came from.

Can I extract pages in a different order?

Not here — extraction keeps document order, because that is what you want when pulling a section out. If you need a different order, use the Reorder PDF Pages tool, which is built for exactly that and shows you the arrangement before you commit to it.
